Sell Your Big Cartel Products on Instagram and Facebook

Connect your Big Cartel shop to Meta Shopping to showcase your products on Facebook and Instagram.

Once connected, Big Cartel automatically creates a Meta catalog and adds your products to it. You’ll then create a Facebook Shop in Meta Commerce Manager and assign your Big Cartel catalog to it. After Meta approves your shop, you can tag products in eligible Facebook and Instagram posts and stories.

When customers select one of your products, they’re sent to your Big Cartel shop to complete their purchase.

What the Meta Shopping integration does

Connecting Meta Shopping lets you:

  • Display your Big Cartel products on Facebook and Instagram
  • Tag products in eligible posts and stories
  • Keep your Meta product catalog synced with your Big Cartel shop
  • Send customers to your Big Cartel shop to complete checkout
  • Use your product catalog with eligible Meta advertising features

You’ll still need to create your Facebook Shop in Meta Commerce Manager, select the catalog Big Cartel created, and complete Meta’s setup checklist before your products can appear on Facebook or Instagram.

Connect Facebook Shopping

Connect your shop to Meta

Connecting your shop only takes a few steps.

  1. From your Big Cartel admin, open App Center.
  2. Find Facebook Shop.
  3. Select Get Started.
  4. Sign in to Meta and follow the prompts to connect your account.
  5. If your Meta account has more than one business, select the Meta Business you'd like to connect to your Big Cartel shop.
  6. Complete the connection.

Big Cartel automatically creates your product catalog and registers your product feed with Meta.

Once connected, the Sell on Instagram and Facebook page in your Big Cartel admin shows:

  • The Meta business you connected
  • The catalog Big Cartel created
  • Your product feed link
  • Your current feed status

Your products are now in Meta’s catalog, but they won’t appear on Facebook or Instagram until you assign that catalog to a Facebook Shop in Commerce Manager.

Create your Facebook Shop in Commerce Manager

Step 1: Create your shop

  1. From the Sell on Instagram and Facebook page in Big Cartel, select Open Commerce Manager.
  2. In Meta Commerce Manager, select Create shop.
  3. Choose your primary market—the country where you sell—and continue.
  4. When Meta asks Do you already use a commerce platform?, choose I don’t use these platforms and continue. Big Cartel isn’t listed, but your shop will still work the same way.
  5. Select your Facebook Page as your sales channel.

You can connect Instagram and other eligible sales channels later in your Meta settings.

Step 2: Select your Big Cartel catalog

Meta will show a list of your available catalogs. Select the one named Big Cartel — [Your shop name]. Big Cartel created this catalog automatically when you connected Meta Shopping.

Don’t select Create new catalog. Your catalog already exists and is connected to your Big Cartel products. Meta doesn’t let you change the catalog assigned to a shop later, so make sure you select the correct one before continuing.

Step 3: Enter your business details and agree to Meta’s terms

Add your shop information:

  • Contact email: Required and shown to customers on your shop
  • Return window: The number of days customers have to return a product; Meta defaults this to 30 days after delivery
  • Return policy URL: Optional
  • Privacy policy URL: Optional

On the next screen, agree to Meta’s Seller Agreement and continue.

Step 4: Complete Meta’s setup checklist and publish

After creating your shop, Meta will show a setup checklist. Complete these required steps before publishing:

Set up a shipping profile: Add a profile name, choose your shipping locations, and add at least one shipping speed. Standard shipping is enough to get started. You can add expedited options later.

Add your checkout URL: Enter the Big Cartel checkout address shown on your Sell on Instagram and Facebook page. It will be your Big Cartel shop URL followed by /checkout, for example:

https://example.bigcartel.com/checkout

Meta may ask you to preview the checkout using test products. Confirm that the correct products open in your Big Cartel cart, then submit your checkout URL.

Once both checklist items are complete, select Publish shop.

Return to the Sell on Instagram and Facebook page in Big Cartel and select I’ve done this under Last step: connect your catalog to your Facebook Shop.

Meta reviews and determines eligibility for Facebook and Instagram Shopping features. Approval and available features may vary based on your account, location, and eligibility.

Check your product feed

After you’re connected, Big Cartel automatically sends your products to Meta and syncs your product feed daily.

On the Sell on Instagram and Facebook page, check Feed status under Account information to confirm that your products are syncing. You can also copy your product feed link or open your connected Meta business and catalog from this section.

Big Cartel maintains your Meta connection automatically. If the connection can no longer be refreshed, your shop will be disconnected from Meta and you’ll be notified so you can reconnect.

Tag products on Instagram

Once Meta has approved your account for product tagging:

  1. Create an eligible Instagram post or story.
  2. Select Tag Products.
  3. Choose a product from your connected catalog.
  4. Publish your post or story.

Customers can select the tagged product to learn more and continue to your Big Cartel shop to purchase it.

Tag products on Facebook

To tag a product in an eligible Facebook post:

  1. Create your post.
  2. Select Tag Products.
  3. Choose a product from your catalog.
  4. Publish.

Available product-tagging options may vary depending on your Meta account, location, and eligibility.

Ways to use Meta Shopping

Once your products are connected, there are several ways to put your catalog to work.

Promote new products: Tag a new release so followers can quickly view the product and visit your shop.

Turn content into shopping opportunities: Include product tags in eligible lifestyle photos, posts, and stories.

Create product ads: Use your synced catalog with eligible Meta advertising tools.

Share your shop directly: You don't have to tag a product every time. You can always share a direct link to your Big Cartel shop instead.

Disconnect Meta Shopping

You can disconnect your Meta Shopping integration directly from Big Cartel.

  1. Open your Meta Shopping connection page.
  2. Select Disconnect.
  3. Confirm that you'd like to disconnect your account.

Big Cartel will remove the connection in the background.

You can reconnect your Meta account later if you want to use Meta Shopping again.

Track performance with Meta Pixel

If you'd like additional information about how shoppers interact with your shop, you can also add a Meta Pixel.

Meta Pixel can help you track activity such as:

  • Traffic
  • Conversions
  • Ad performance

What syncs with Meta

The following product information is sent from Big Cartel:

  • Product titles
  • Prices
  • Images
  • Product URLs

When you update this information in Big Cartel, your product feed keeps your Meta catalog up to date.

What doesn't sync

Some information remains managed separately.

The integration does not sync:

  • Orders
  • Inventory changes made directly in Meta
  • Product edits made directly in Meta

Continue managing your products and inventory from Big Cartel.

Checkout also continues to happen through your Big Cartel shop, not directly through Meta.
